Butler's Pantry

What exactly is a Butler’s Pantry, where is it located, what is in it, and why do you need one? Is a Butler’s Pantry something only large lavish homes have? Do you need to have a Butler to have one?

Generally speaking, a Butler’s Pantry is just a walk-through pantry that is typically located between the kitchen and the dining area. Although this is the traditional location of a Butler's Pantry it does not mean you can't bend the rules.

Your specific needs will determine what goes in a Butler’s Pantry. Traditionally you will find upper and lower cabinets with ample storage and a wet bar for serving drinks or cleaning up. While some people use this space as a prep area or transition from the kitchen, others use it as a common pantry with abundant shelving.

Any size home can have a Butler’s Pantry! The Harthaven Place home plan is a smaller floor plan with just 1820 square feet of living space, yet it offers not only a walk-in pantry but a Butler’s Pantry as well. And no, you do not need a Butler to have a Butler’s Pantry, but if you can afford one, they are a tremendous help around the house.
