This practical and versatile detached garage plan with workshop offers a compact yet highly functional structure designed to support storage, hobbies, and everyday vehicle protection. With 776 square feet of total structure, the design provides an efficient footprint that fits comfortably on many property types while delivering valuable workspace and storage capacity.
Measuring 34 feet wide and 26 feet deep, the garage maintains a balanced and space-efficient layout that works well alongside an existing home or as part of a new build. The building rises to a height of 20 feet 6 inches, giving the structure a strong architectural presence while maintaining compatibility with many residential home styles.
At the heart of the design is a 645 square foot two-car garage, providing generous space for vehicle parking while still allowing room for tool storage, shelving, or small equipment. The front-load garage doors make access convenient from driveways or access roads, while the thoughtful layout ensures smooth entry and exit for vehicles.
One of the standout features of this garage plan is the dedicated 131 square foot workshop area. This space is perfect for homeowners who enjoy woodworking, automotive projects, crafting, or general DIY work. By separating the workshop from the main garage area, the design allows tools, workbenches, and materials to remain organized without interfering with vehicle storage.
The workshop area can also function as a flexible workspace for hobbies, small repairs, gardening equipment storage, or a private workspace for creative projects. Whether used for weekend projects or daily tasks, the workshop adds significant value and functionality to the structure.
The garage also features a 10-foot ceiling height, providing excellent vertical clearance for vehicles, shelving systems, overhead storage racks, or larger equipment. This extra height can also make the space feel more open and comfortable for workshop use.
Architecturally, the design includes two complementary roof pitches of 9:12 and 4:12, creating visual interest while helping the structure blend naturally with many traditional or modern home styles. These rooflines add character and improve overall curb appeal, ensuring the garage complements the main residence rather than appearing purely utilitarian.
A small stoop entry provides convenient access to the structure without requiring the garage doors to be opened. This feature makes it easy to enter the workshop area, retrieve tools, or access stored items quickly and efficiently.
Despite its modest size, this garage plan offers remarkable flexibility. Homeowners can use the building as a vehicle garage, workshop, storage facility, hobby studio, or equipment shelter. The compact footprint also makes it ideal for backyard placement, side-yard installations, or rural properties where additional workspace is needed.
Because the structure contains no heated living space, it remains simple and cost-effective to build while still delivering significant utility. The design prioritizes efficiency, functionality, and durability, making it a practical addition to almost any property.
With its two-car capacity, dedicated workshop space, high ceiling height, and attractive rooflines, this detached garage plan provides the perfect solution for homeowners who need both vehicle protection and a reliable workspace. Compact, versatile, and thoughtfully designed, it delivers maximum usability within a manageable footprint.

All house plans sold by Archival Designs have been designed to comply with the International Residential Code (IRC) and to the local codes in the area where the designer resides or where the house was built.
All house plans are designed to meet or exceed the national building standards required by the International Residential Code (IRC). Due to differences in climate and geography throughout North America, every city, local municipality and county has unique building codes and regulations that must be followed to obtain a building permit. Prior to purchasing a set of house plans, we recommend that you meet with your local building officials in order to determine the building requirements for your area. It is the responsibility of the purchaser(s) and/or builder to ensure that the structure is constructed to meet the codes of their local area.
Important Note:
House plans do not come stamped or signed by an architect or engineer. Additionally, house plans typically will not include structural engineering notes/calculations. Please check with your local building officials to determine if a stamp is required. If required, the building department will only accept a stamp from a licensed professional in the state where the home will be built.
Depending on your city, county, and state building requirements, house plans may need to be reviewed by a local licensed architect or engineer for structural details and code standards before construction begins. This is particularly true in coastal areas and those facing seismic events, extreme winds, and heavy snow. If you are building in any of these areas, a licensed structural engineer will likely be needed to provide the necessary calculations and additional drawings. We authorize the use of our plans conditioned on your obligation and agreement to strictly comply with all local building codes, ordinances, regulations, and requirements, including permits and inspections at the time of and during construction. We recommend checking with your local building department for the most current requirements. The purchaser(s) and/or builder are responsible for additional expenses incurred through meeting municipality requirements or other requirements for construction.
Our foundation plans have been designed for universal conditions and may need to be adjusted to fit your specific site conditions. The foundation should be modified by a local structural engineer to comply with soil testing laboratory findings and local building requirements.
Our house plans will include schematic electrical drawings; however, circuiting or wire sizing will not be included. Your electrical subcontractor will typically provide these drawings.
HVAC and plumbing drawings are not included. Your mechanical and plumbing subcontractors will determine the best layout for your site. Local HVAC codes, climatic requirements and commonly used systems vary throughout the country. The direction of how water flow will enter the home vary from case to case. For this reason, it is impossible to provide universal plans.
